NEW MADRID, Mo. – Gov. Eric Greitens joined other lawmakers in New Madrid, Missouri, to announce a re-start of a smelter facility.
Magnitude 7 Metals is the company which will bring 450 jobs back by the second quarter.
This community suffered a big loss when a former aluminum plant went dark two years ago – 900 jobs were lost.
The new jobs will reportedly have an average wage of $64,000 a year.
Greitens says it means a lot to individuals but also the community.
“It means more money for schools, more customers in a restaurant, it means people have money in their pocket to put in for a little league team, it means the pastor knows people won’t have to leave the community and they can put more in the coffers on Sunday morning,” Greitens said.
The company CEO told the crowd that President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on metal could bring even more jobs in the future.
