BRANSON, Mo. – The investigation surrounding a suspicious death in Branson continues this evening.
Saturday morning, the Branson Police Department found the body of a man in a wooded area off of Highway 76. The victim has since been identified as Wayne Gilley, 54, who has no known address.
The death investigation started when the police department received an anonymous tip from a man, Friday night, who said he had picked up a distraught female who claimed there were two dead bodies in the woods.
Police have not released the location, other than to say its on private land off of Highway 76.
Investigators searched the woods that night but found nothing due to the conditions. When the search resumed Saturday morning, that is when Gilley’s body was discovered.
Over the weekend, it was reported the victim’s body was found near a homeless camp. Monday, the city said it was in a heavily wooded area.
Investigators have continued ot seach the area but currently don’t believe there is a second body.
Police Chief, Stan Dobbins, says while the investigation is ongoing, he believes the death was an isolated incident and that the public is not in danger.
An autopsy to determine Gilley’s cause of death is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
