NEVADA (KODE) – A southwest Missouri man is among the field of more than 600 people who have filed to run for president next year.

Nevada resident Robert Smith is one of eighty-four people who have filed to run on the Republican ticket next year. Smith’s campaign slogan is “The Working Class Representing the Working Class,” and he says his background as a blue collar worker would bring a common man’s perspective to the White House. Smith says as a father of three and a factory worker, he shares a common bond with many Americans. He says while there may be some people who question his motives, he assures us this is not just a publicity stunt.

“If I had a million dollars, they wouldn’t ask me if it was a joke,” Smith says. “If I was a household name, they’d be, like, all right. Nobody would question my intent and why I do this.”
