WASHINGTON — National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster said that the possibility of war with North Korea is growing and that the communist nation is “the greatest immediate threat to the United States.”
McMaster spoke on the issue last night at the Reagan National Defense Forum.
“China has tremendous coercive economic power over North Korea,” McMaster said. “I mean, you can’t shoot missiles without fuel and, so, there are ways to address this problem short of armed conflict. But it is a race because he’s getting closer and closer.”
On Tuesday, North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile that Pyongyang said could reach the mainland of the United States.
