SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A portion of Mt. Vernon Street will close for ten weeks starting May 29 for utility work.
The utility work is associated with the Mt. Vernon Street Improvements Project and will close down Mt. Vernon Street between Nolting Avenue and Laurel Avenue, according to a press release from the City of Springfield.
The portion of the street is expected to reopen in mid-August.
The Mt. Vernon Street Improvements Project also includes lowering the crest of a hill on the street to improve sight for drivers and accessibility for pedestrians. It will also include ADA improvements to the sidewalks, according to the release.
The city advises motorists to follow the marked detour.
