AVA, Mo.- The Douglas County Sheriff held a press conference today with new information concerning the homicide investigation of a man shot outside his home last week.
Sheriff Chris Degase says the crime scene is in Douglas county, but it’s near a corner that touches Christian and Webster counties. He says the victim, 34-year old Lance Terrill, was better known to law enforcement agencies in those two counties, as are the suspects.
The Sheriff believes it was one person who pulled the trigger, and says he thinks that person has fled the area with the help of family members.
Degase believes the victim’s estranged wife connects him to the suspects, and mentioned drugs may be involved.
“There were numerous people apprehended in the woods,” said Degase. “From there we interviewed multiple people and it was about five this morning when we finished interviewing people.”
That questioning led to about 40 seized items, many of which were weapons. He does not believe the community is in danger.
“It was nothing that I would anticipate we would have additional shootings in that area,” Degase said. “Hopefully we don’t have any retaliation from family to family, but as far as the community, in general, that isn’t involved in this, yes the community is safe. This was a very, very targeted attack.”
Degase says the people in custody for questioning have been released, and there are no arrests at this time.
