SPRINGFIELD, Mo- MoDOT has kicked off their 2018 work zone awareness week in hopes to lower deaths in work zones on Missouri roadways.
MoDOT and The Highway Patrol are pairing together to discuss the importance of work zone safety and to stay focused while driving through there. It’s an effort to try and reduce the number from last year when 16 people died in work zones on Missouri roadways.
“Primarily the number one thing folks can do is put their seat belts on and their phones down while going through work zones. Distracted driving is still one of the leading causes of accidents in work zones and crashes, so we need to pay attention to the job at hand,” says Travis Koestner of MoDOT.
Travis did highlight at the event, one major work zone coming to Springfield, which will be 65 southbound over the highway 44 bridge, replacing parts of that road and ultimately replacing the bridge.
