SPRINGFIELD, Mo — Prior to Dana Ford tipping of his first game at the helm of the Missouri State Bears men’s basketball team, there are a couple necessities: Fan support, and coffee.
He accomplished both of those this morning during his 1st of 5 “Coffee with Coach Ford” events at Big Momma’s in Springfield.
“Our university is a very important part of the community and I think we owe it to the people to get out and be human with everyone,” said Coach Dana Ford. “Being able to be felt, and be known is very important.”
“In return, we hope they come out and support us.”
Coach Ford plans on meeting with fans from 7-8am at 217 E. Commercial Street in Springfield on August 28, September 18, October 9, November 6, and December 4.
All of the events are free to attend, and occur on Tuesdays.
Ford will begin his 1st coaching career at Missouri State when the Bears tip off against the Evangel Crusaders on October 30.
And preparing for that date will require more than just caffeine.
He admits that he’s most excited for practice to start.
“I want to see what we have and I want to see how they perform under pressure. I want to see who has the self determination do get out and win.”
“Building a program and building that foundation is something we are all excited about.”
