SPRINGFIELD, Mo- The Missouri Department of Conservation has released a list of state parks they are offering almost 1,000 acres of specified grasslands to be mowed and harvested as hay.

The department is offering the land to help aid farmers who have been impacted by the recent drought conditions in Missouri.

Anyone who is interested in participating in the drought assistance hay program may apply for access to any of the state park haying locations. A lottery system will be used to randomly select one winner from the list of applicants for each location, the department said on its website.

Winnners of the initial lottery have been announced and are listed on their website below the map.

The lottery winner for each state park haying location will be issued a permit. The permit period began August 27 and will close November 27, 2018. When the permit process is complete, the lottery winner may proceed with cutting and harvesting the hay on or after August 27, 2018.

Hay may be cut only after August 27 and must be removed before November 27.
