MARSHFIELD, Mo. (News-Leader) A Marshfield woman has been accused of abandoning her beagle puppy in a ditch on the side of the road.

Gwendolyn Jackson, 25, was charged Tuesday with animal abuse after court documents say a witness spotted her dumping the dog.

According to a probable cause statement, a witness called authorities on Monday to report that someone had dumped a small puppy in the ditch next to his house on Sweet Gum Loop just southeast of the Marshfield city limits.

The witness had pictures of the car before it drove away, and Webster County sheriff’s deputies used the license plate number to identify Jackson as a suspect, according to the statement.

The statement says deputies went to Jackson’s home in Marshfield, and she admitted to abandoning the puppy.
