WARD, Ark. — An Arkansas man is facing multiple counts of animal cruelty after police say he shot his own dog and then stabbed her six puppies to death.
Scotty Jackson, 44, was arrested Monday.
However, according to police, Jackson defends what he did because his dog attacked another dog.
He also allegedly said killing the puppies was, “the right thing,” out of concern that they too may grow up to be aggressive.
Jackson’s neighbors say they could understand that was upset about his dog being attacked, but can’t wrap their head around with happened to the puppies.
“He could have (taken) them to a shelter. or he could have called the police to say ‘hey I can’t take care of these puppies the mama is vicious,'” Kate Lynn Lee, a neighbor, said.
When police arrived at the scene, they found one puppy barely breathing, but it had to be put down.
Jail records show Jackson bonded out of jail on Tuesday.
