CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — A ten-year-old cold case has finally come to a close concerning the 2006 killing of Shawn Spencer.

A press release from the prosecuting attorney’s office in Camden County said David W. Smith has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to shooting and killing Spencer in April 2006.

Smith was sentenced to fifteen years for voluntary manslaughter and four years for abandonment of a corpse, receiving the maximum sentence for each count.

The release explained that Smith killed Spencer at Smith’s residence in Camdenton. The investigation began after Spencer went missing. Smith was arrested in June 2015 for Spencer’s death.
