Man Arrested for Double Homicide at Lake Ozark Campground

LAKE OZARK, Mo.– An arrest has been made in a double homicide at an RB park and campground at Lake Ozark Wednesday.

Police say the shooting happened at the Riverview RV Park and Campgrounds just off Highway 54.

Neighbor Jack Farris told KOLR10 he was surprised by the police presence in his normally quiet neighborhood, and says he knows the RV park owners.

“We used to have a camper down here, I’ve known Larry and Vicky for a long time,” Farris said. “And I probably know these people. You know, there have been several of them come in. And they watch it for Larry and Vicky while they spend time in Florida.”

Farris suspects the owners are on their way back from Florida now.

Authorities named 58-year-old Gary Sweet as a person of interest in the shooting.  He was arrested at the request of the Lake Area major case squad and booked nto the Phelps County Jail on suspicion of double homicide.

A neighbor told KOLR10 despite the heavy police presence, he won’t do anything differently to lock up his house tonight. He still feels safe and says this is an isolated incident in a quiet area.

“This is the first time… we used to have a trailer in here for years, and this is the first time I ever know that there’s been a shooting,” said Jack Farris.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Miller County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Lake Ozark Police Department in the investigation. The Mid-Missouri Major Crimes unit has also been called into investigate.

Lake Ozark police say this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. Police say they are not releasing any new information Wednesday night, but expect to have an update Thursday morning.
