SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Now that Christmas is over, it was a busy day at local recycling centers following all the gifts and gatherings during the holiday.
At Lonepine Recycling in Springfield cars were lined up before the gates opened.
Much of all of the discarded materials from the holiday celebrations like wrapping paper, boxes, bottles, and cans were loaded up and brought to recycling bins today.
Many parents used this time to teach their children about recycling and the importance of it.
Kyle Walk is an avid recycler and his two boys, ages five and seven, helped their dad out on this busier than a normal day.
“This recycling hub is always pretty busy and it’s always tricky getting in and out of the parking lots because there are so many people but its really good to see everybody taking part,” Walk said.
Cardboard from shipping boxes and presents was filling them up the most bins the quickest and the roll-off trucks made returns about every 45-minutes to clear them out
