AURORA, Mo. – The Aurora-Marionville Police Department responded to a murder-suicide on Oak Drive in Aurora on Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Wes Coatney said a 911 call was placed by a neighbor who said a man inside the home had told him to call 911.
Officers arrived about two minutes later to find an elderly couple dead in the home on their couch.
Cell phones, bank statements, and other personal items were laid out for officers to find.
The deceased have been identified as 74-year-old John Proudfoot and 67-year-old Lowona Kay Proudfoot.
A release from the police department said that John Proudfoot shot and killed his wife, Lowona, before taking his own life.
“This is a tight-knit community. These are folks that had friends in the neighborhood. These are folks who seemed to otherwise be just a good, retired elderly couple. This will be a shock and this will be sad,” said Chief Coatney.
