Local News

MISSOURI — Missouri’s New Year’s holiday was much safer than a year ago.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported no fatalities for the crashes it investigated during the holiday weekend.

Branson Police investigated a crash Friday evening, but that crash was not reported to nor is it being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, according to a spokesperson for MSHP Troop D. The Highway patrol’s release encompassed only crashes the Highway Patrol reported.

The Highway Patrol news release says fatality statistics could change if someone dies later, or if other departments report fatal crashes.

There were 406 traffic crashes during the accounting period that ran from 6 PM. Thursday through midnight Sunday.

That compares to more than 1,200 in 2020.

2021 saw 94 DWI’s, which matches numbers from last year.

Troopers reported 91 crash-related injuries but no deaths on the road.
