New legislation to amend Title IX laws will soon appear in state Congress.
The legislation — initiated by a Jefferson City lobbyist — would create more protections for those accused of Title IX violations.
House Minority Leader Crystal Quade says this legislation is an example of dark money at work in the legislature.
“I’m really glad to see that this has come to light,” Quade said. “You know, we’ve had a lot of conversations about dark money in the state of Missouri. This is probably the most egregious example we have to show why we need to get really serious about this. So i’m really glad that the press has been so proactive on this and is really bringing light to what’s going on.”
There is a version of the Title IX bill currently in the Senate. However, its sponsor, Senator Gary Romine, said his office drafted it without outside assistance.
