Mo. — Some positive news in the battle to keep patients off opioids.

MoHealthNet, Missouri’s Medicaid program, is seeing a sharp drop in the number of patients being prescribed opioids.

Prescriptions for those medicines are down by about 36% since 2012.

Officials say better prescribing practices, more treatment options and alternative therapies are part of the reason for the lower numbers.
