LAMAR, Ark. – Officials have confirmed that the Lamar men’s basketball coach has been arrested for allegedly driving a school bus while being intoxicated.
The coach was arrested late Friday afternoon near Alma while driving his team and taken into custody on an intoxication charge as well as endangering the welfare of a minor.
State troopers were notified shortly after 5 p.m. that he was suspected of being intoxicated and driving a Lamar School Bus with children onboard.
The bus was located about 5:30 p.m. by troopers east of Altus where he was taken into custody without incident.
Lamar school officials arrived at the scene and made arrangements to transport nine children to Lamar.
According to the Lamar School website, the basketball team is playing a tournament in Mansfield that began on Dec. 27 and is set to end on the 30th.
