Kansas Deals With Snow on May 1

News

GARDEN CITY, Mo. — It’s the first day of May and while many in the Ozarks are fighting off May showers, Kansas neighbors are dealing with winter weather.

Places like Garden City, Kansas were hit with a winter storm this weekend that left countless motorists stranded.

Gilbert Valerio, Finney County, Kansas  Emergency Manager, says stranded drivers were only one issue first responders faced.

Widespread power outages eventually led to the opening of a shelter for folks to come in and get out of the cold.

“Pretty much everybody lost their power at one time or another and some I’ve heard as far as 1 a.m … No power,” Valerio said.

Numerous schools in western Kansas are closed Monday due to the weekend snow.
