Inmate Strikes Greene County Correctional Officer With Handcuffs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding an inmate-correctional officer assault that took place May 28 and sent the officer to the hospital.

According to a press release, Greene County Sheriff’s Correctional Officer Deputy Tyler Dodson was assaulted by 24-year old inmate Jesus Araiza.

When Deputy Dodson attempted to contact Araiza, he was struck multiple times in a surprise attack. During the altercation, Araiza removed Deputy Dodson’s handcuffs from his duty belt and struck him several times with the
handcuffs.

Prior to the attack, other inmates had advised Correctional staff of Araiza’s behavior and concerns for their own safety.

Araiza has been charged with felony first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

Deputy Dodson sustained several serious injuries requiring medical attention. The assault left him with multiple fractures in his nose, fractures to his jaw and requiring staples to close wounds.

Deputy Dodson was released from the hospital and has now returned to duty.
