HARRISON, Ark. — An in-home care nurse pled guilty to abusing her 14-year-old patient in Boone County.

Newly released court records show 58-year-old Diana Higgins from Valley Springs made the plea to a single charge of battery in the second degree. She was originally charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, but those charges were amended by the prosecuting attorney back in October.

This case stems from a tip called to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office about a 14-year-old total care chronic ventilator-dependent child possibly being abused by one of the patient’s in-home care nurses in February.

Judge John Putman sentenced Higgins to four years probation and fines totaling more than $2,500. She also lost her nursing license and was barred from attempting to get another.
