Hot Springs Couple Jailed for Zip-Tying Child

News

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.(KARK)–A Hot Springs couple is in jail accused of zip-tying a four-year-old girl.

DHS was already involved with this family. On Friday, they called police when they noticed signs of physical abuse on the little girl.

Deep purple bruising, a blackened eye, a swollen right cheek, scars, dried blood and ligature marks from being restrained, those are injuries to the young child outlined in the police affidavit.

“We looked at the charges and we were like WOW!”, said a neighbor.

This neighbor says her daughter used to play with the child but suddenly stopped wanting to go over there.

“We didn’t know why. We stayed to ourselves and they stayed to themselves.”

She says she was shocked when she found out her neighbor ,Jennifer Denen and Denen’s live in boyfriend Clarence Reed, were arrested.

The couple is facing several charges including endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to police documents, when DHS asked the child her name she stated “idiot”. Another child living at the house said the couple referred to the girl as “idiot instead of using her name”

Documents also show Reed admitted he zip tied the child to the bed  after he found her climbing on cabinets.

“Makes me mad. Not every woman can have a baby… if you have a child, it’s a blessing,” said the neighbor.

The child was taken into protective custody. Denen and Reed remain in the Garland County Jail on $500,000 bond each.
