At least four Greene County deputies responded to a home in Suburban Acres mobile home park Friday morning in reference to a burglary in progress.
According to a release from the sheriff’s office, a 56-year-old suspect unlawfully entered the residence with a muzzle rifle and a plastic toy gun and confronted the homeowner and a visitor about a possible stolen dog.
The homeowner was able to disarm the suspect and detain him until officers arrived. The “stolen” dog was not recovered and the suspect was transported to a local hospital due to complaints of health issues, the release said.
The park is located off Kearney Street, east of U.S. 65 and Springfield Underground.
The News-Leader observed a deputy could be seen talking with a young man with a dog.
Although he did not have apparent injuries, the young man with the dog stepped into the ambulance for a few minutes and an officer led the concerned dog, who kept trying to board the ambulance, to a trailer at the south end of the trailer park.
A neighbor who declined to give his name said he didn’t know what was going on but it “must be serious.”
“All I know is they barreled in here pretty darn quick,” he said.
Potential charges will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office for review once the investigation is completed, the release said.
