Holiday Dinner for Homeless and Veterans

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Hundreds of homeless people were treated to a great holiday meal at the Veterans Coming Home Center in Springfield.

Several local churches and organizations cooked up a big turkey and ham dinner.

Organizers also donated cold weather clothes and sleeping bags for those out in bitter nights across the Ozarks.

“There are so many people that have nowhere to go and when it’s really cold there’s only a few shelters that open and most of them are just for men and it has to be below 32 degrees,” says Pam Long, Step by Step prayer group member and event organizer. “So the other people are stuck out under a bridge or in a doorway with no place to go. And we’ve lost a few that were frozen to death in the last couple of years and we just can’t allow that.”

Pam Long is part of the step by step prayer group that also takes prayer requests and donations for the homeless.
