OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Shocking video shows a suspect open fire on an OHP trooper. The shots rang out Sunday night outside a motel in Woodward, Oklahoma.
The man who took this video is from out of state – and you can tell by listening- just how shocked he was when the suspect started shooting.
WOODWARD, Okla. – A video depicting a shootout between a man and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper at a Days Inn in Woodward early Sunday has been posted to YouTube.
The OHP confirmed Monday that the video posted by Jared Kemp shows Arturo Ramirez firing his weapon at trooper Austin Ellis. The video is graphic; viewer discretion is advised.
Ellis pulled Ramirez over on suspicion of not using his seat belt. Troopers said, Ramirez drove away, prompting a pursuit and that at the end of the chase, gunfire was exchanged.
Ellis suffered a fractured rib which caused internal bleeding when he was shot once to the side of his vest. Ellis was taken to OU Medical Center.
Arturo Ramirez had prior crimes in Dewey, Woodward and Ellis counties. Past charges range from speeding to assault on an emergency medical technician and resisting an officer.
But this time – he was only getting pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt.
Trooper Eliis was in good condition Sunday and has vastly improved, OHP Col. Mike Harrell said. After being treated for his injuries, Ramirez will be booked at the Woodward County jail.
