NEOSHO, Mo.(KODE)- Goodman Elementary kids are rushing through the halls to find their classroom in a new building.
Around 300 Students started the school year sharing a part of the Neosho Middle School. The theme was “So Happy Together,” and people wore hippie outfits, while the walls were covered in tie-dye.
This idea symbolizes the unity of everyone being under one roof again, after being separated into four buildings last year.
Principals say the tornado in April might have taken the building, but it didn’t take the people.
Principal, Samantha Hamilton says, “I think parents and the kids and the teachers have all had a little bit of fresh air today realizing it’s okay, we are going to be alright. It’s going to be school just like, no matter where we are. So everybody has had a refreshing smile today that I think it’s back to normal.
Grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade share the Neosho Middle School.
Neosho School Administrators are anticipating the next step of rebuilding Goodman Elementary. Demolition is complete and school leaders are looking at construction options.
The district is waiting to send out the request for qualification, which is the first part of securing a builder. That should be done by the beginning of September.
Administrators say by the end of this month, they’ll have final numbers from the district’s insurance provider. The plan as of now is to rebuild the school on the same piece of land.
