HOT SPRINGS, Ark.(KARK) – Hot Springs police arrested two 14-year-old boys on rape charges after a 16-year-old girl accused them of attacking her on a school campus.

According to police, the alleged rape occurred Wednesday after school in the Lakeside High School Field House.

A news release issued Monday states the alleged victim reported that the two boys approached her while she was inside the field house and forced her into the girl’s locker room. She told police that once the boys got her into the girl’s locker room, they turned off the lights, forcefully held her and sexually assaulted her.

The girl notified school district administration officials of the incident Thursday morning and they immediately contacted police.

HSPD detectives arrested the suspects Friday on rape charges and booked them into the Garland County Juvenile Detention Center with no bond. It is unclear if they will be charged as adults.

Police are not revealing any other details about the case.

School district officials confirmed the boys have not returned to campus but did not say if they would be expelled.

The district released information about the incident to students and parents Monday.

A classmate of the alleged rape suspects said the halls were filled with rumors and confusion at first, but by the end of the day, the student body was rallying around the girl.

“Lakeside really doesn’t have that kind of students here, people who do that,” said the classmate, who wished to remain anonymous. “That never happens.”

“To hear that that had happened at such a young age, it was very scary,” her mother said.

It is not clear why the two boys or the girl were still on Lakeside’s campus, but what students and parents do know is there is little to no supervision after 3:30 p.m. on a school day.

“It’s pretty much a ghost town through the buildings,” the mother said.
