SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Employees and patients at the Fremont Building on the campus of Mercy Hospital are awaiting an all-clear signal to return to the building after it was evacuated this morning after an apparent natural gas leak.

Mercy spokesman Brad Haller said City Utilities and Springfield Fire Department responded after the smell of natural gas was detected. The gas line was capped and no injuries were reported.

The building at 1965 South Fremont Avenue houses a variety of medical offices and services for the Mercy Health System.
