Gallup:  Springfield Again Ranks High for Community Exercise

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —  Springfield is among the most active communities in the nation for getting regular exercise,  according to an annual Gallup survey.

Springfield ranked 25th in the country for the year 2016.  (download and view the full report at the bottom of this story)  The rankings are based on the amount of exercise Americans get, according to responses to the survey and the percentage of people who say they have exercised for 30 minutes or more a day for three days or more a week.

The Gallup organization has ranked Springfield 25th on its list of Communities with the Highest Rates of Regular Exercise.

The study conducted is an addition to the State of American: Well Being series. On the 2016 Community Ranking for Exercises report, Springfield, Missouri was ranked 25th  in the nation. 

The report examines exercise in Americans across the U.S. and ranks the cities based on response and percentage of those who have exercised for 30 minutes or more a day, three or more days a week.

Gallup’s online report said the rates of regular exercise at a nine-year high in the U.S.   

These rates vary by community but the top exercise communities show more 65% of their population exercises daily. Springfield reported 57.7% of the population exercised 30 minutes or more, three times a week.

Springfield-Greene County Health and Parks Departments, in a news release, reminded Springfield residents there are many opportunities for people to get exercise outside, with 103 park locations, including golf courses, playgrounds and sports facilities.
