SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–Renovations will soon start on a building dedicated to serving  familes in foster care and the welfare system.

Foster Adopt Connect located on South Cavalier in Springfield bought its current building, which will allow the organization to offer more programs.

Because of the renovations, Foster Adopt Connect will be able to provide even more kids with essentials like clothes, school supplies, and mental health services.

In 2018, 3,100 people walked through the doors of Foster Adopt Connect. The organization wants to better serve those individuals by upgrading the building.

“By purchasing and renovating the building, it’s going to allow us to almost double the staff we currently have, which will allow us to grow our current programs and add new ones thus helping more children in the southwest Missouri area,” says Executive Director of Southwest Missouri Resource Center.

One of the services the center offers is called Sammy’s Window-providing basic needs to kids like clothes and shoes.

“A lot of times it’s the first stop that they might come to when a foster family receives a placement of kids. They might come here first because they need to pick up clothing and school supplies and immediate needs such as body wash and shampoo,” says Gregory.

Renovations at the center will also allow more mental health services for the kids.

“Provide long lasting programs through advocacy behavioral intervention and other programs like that that really help them with the issues that they have and the trauma they’re impacted with,” says Gregory.

After working in a cramped space for the past four years, staff at Foster Adopt Connect are looking forward to more room once the remodeling is finished.

“So excited, I think everyone has been working in very close quarters and kind of just doing the best with what we can and they can’t even contain the excitement in really being able to have a good work environment,” says Gregory.

There’s no word yet on when the renovations will be completed.
