SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A former Ash Grove history teacher was sentenced to four years in prison after he pled guilty to sex crime felonies.

William Nathan Herrington, 37, pled guilty to second degree statutory sodomy and sexual contact by a teacher with a student, according to a news release from the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

In the fall of 2014, he started a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.

The victims’ mother noticed a change in her daughter’s behavior, uncovered the abuse and alerted the school district. The district notified police.

Harrington pled guilty on March 9 and was sentenced Friday.

He requested probation after the State asked for prison time.

Judge Thomas Mountjoy denied probation and sentenced Harrington to prison.

According to the release, Mountjoy, “cited the fact that Herrington was in a position of trust, that he had a responsibility to both teach and safeguard the children entrusted to him, that he had taken advantage of that trust, and no amount of good deeds could reverse the damage that had been done.”
