SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A flashing yellow turn arrow will be added to the Chestnut Expressway and U.S. 65 interchange.

MoDOT says the light went live at 7 a.m. on November 1st.

The arrow will be added to the southbound traffic signal at the diamond interchange of Chestnut and U.S. 65, allowing drivers to make left turns as long as they yield to oncoming traffic.

How It Works

For those who have never encountered a flashing yellow light, an introduction is as follows:

  • Drivers with a flashing yellow left-turn arrow can make a left turn after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
  • A sign will be mounted next to the signal display saying “Left Turn Yield On Flashing Arrow”.
  • If the flashing yellow signal stops flashing, drivers should prepare to stop before a red light appears.

MoDOT is reminding drivers to YIELD to oncoming traffic and to turn cautiously when there is an opening in the traffic flow.
