SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A pre-dawn fire at a west Springfield car auction lot destroyed at least half a dozen cars and damaged several others, Springfield fire officials say.

The fire was reported after 4:00 a.m. at the 166 Auto Auction, 2944 W. Sunshine.

Springfield Fire Marshal Mark Epps tells KOLR10 News the investigation is just beginning into what started the fire.  Fire crews had to direct water and foam over a security fence because, initially, they could not get access into the secured area.

Investigators will look at security camera footage from the business to see if it shows the area where the fire started.
