Fire Breaks Out at Springfield Metal Business

News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield firefighters were called to a metal and steel company in north Springfield early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported about 4:15 a.m. at Merrill Iron and Steel, 2101 N. Packer Road.

Battalion Fire Chief Scott Jones says firefighters found the fire in a steel dust hopper in the rear of the warehouse.

Scott says overnight shift workers called the fire department when they realized the fire was too much for them to put out with fire extinguishing equipment they had.

About 40 employees work the overnight shift at Merrill, Scott said.  All got out safely.
