JOPLIN, Mo. —  An early morning crash on Joplin Avenue in Joplin left a driver at the burn unit and with a D.W.I.

Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the Joplin Police Department tried to stop a vehicle for careless driving near Second and Joplin Street.

The car didn’t stop for JPD and continued south on Joplin street. A Missouri State Trooper also saw the vehicle and attempted to stop it.

The vehicle then went airborne at 7th Street, taking out a utility pole and crashing into a building on South Joplin causing the building to ignite.

The driver tried to run away but was quickly arrested.

At this time, we do not know the driver’s name, however, they’ve been transported to the Springfield Burn Unit, facing charges of felony D.W.I. and driving with a revoked license.
