Eagle Days at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center

News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Bird lovers in Springfield got to see a rare sight this afternoon at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.

The annual Eagle Days event brought out dozens of people to watch and learn more about the bird of prey.

One of our KOLR10 photographers shot this great video of an eagle hovering over the water waiting to snatch some food.

The event was put on by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

“We’ve had numbers as high as 3000 birds in the winter and it just depends on how much open water there is up north because the more closed water, the more frozen lakes, the more birds come south so it kind of depends on the weather,” said Alan Reed, of the MDC.

Along with some other migratory birds, an indoor Bald Eagle from the Dickerson Park Zoo was also at the event for people to see.
