Drug Take Back for Old Meds

News

SPRINGFIELD — Six local pharmacies opened up their doors Saturday afternoon allowing people to safely dispose of expired or unused medication.

It was apart of the drug take back day event.

Any old medication besides sharp needles or syringes, inhalers or glass containers — will safely be disposed of instead of flushing them down the toilet and getting into the water supply.

The Skaggs Foundation says four out of five new heroin users first began with the use of prescription opioids. The source of those prescription drugs is often the home medicine cabinet.
