DOUGLAS COUNTY — Josiah David Wheat, 30, is charged with 5 counts of felony animal abuse.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had had numerous calls from all over the United States as well as Canada, in regards to a social media post that violently showed puppies being killed by a Vanzant resident.
According to the probable cause statement for this case, Wheat posted of himself with the puppies before and after beating the animals to death with an aluminum baseball bat. The animals were struck 16 times in the duration of the one minute video.
On August 31st, Wheat was arrested in Mountain Grove. Officers received consent to search his vehicle, in which they found the baseball bat believed to be used in the killing of the puppies.
Josiah David Wheat, age 30, is currently in the custody of the Douglas County Jail and has been charged with 5 counts of Animal Abuse Felony E.
Wheat’s bond has been set at $15,000 10% Cash or Surety with supervision. He is not to possess any domesticated animal, and will be required to undergo drug testing twice a week. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case with the help of the Humane Society.
