SPRINGFIELD, Mo- A Greene County jury awards Mercy Clinic’s former medical director more than $1.5 million in damages, following a lawsuit against the hospital system.
The jury ruled in favor Friday of Dr. Hyewon Kim, assessing compensatory damages of $720,821 and punitive damages of $800,000.
Kim filed the lawsuit in 2012, after the radiation oncologist claims she was dismissed from Mercy Clinic in Springfield for telling administration about her concerns about two doctors, according to the Wichita Eagle.
The suit alleges that Kim observed several violations of medical standards by the two doctors that affected patient safety. Mercy previously denied those allegations.
A Mercy spokesperson on Friday said the hospital is not commenting on the case.
