Divorce Rates in the United States Plunge to a 35-Year Low

(CNN) —  The question is, what is going on for these divorce rates to decrease?

Well, it’s hard to pin point, but factors could include the aging of the U.S. population, changing gender roles or the simple fact that not many people are getting married.

Marriage rates have remained stable, with about 32 marriages for every 1,000 unmarried women age 15 or older.

Utah has the highest marriage rate in the U.S., but here’s a surprise, its divorce rate is higher than in 40% of states.

Some Americans are foregoing marriage to stay single and live alone, or to co-habituate with their partners without tying the knot.

The new data is from the National Center for Family and Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
