Crash South of Joplin Kills Three

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. — Three people are dead in a head-on crash in far southwest Missouri Tuesday.

The Highway Patrol says it happened about 1:20 a.m. on Route V, 3 miles south of Joplin in Newton County.  

Troopers say an SUV crossed the center line and hit a passenger car.  Two people in the car were killed.  They are Ronnie Ducommun, 32, Wentzville, Missouri, and Janet Ducommun, 67, of Neosho.

Alex Ashlin, 18, of Neosho, a passenger in the SUV also died.  The driver of the SUV, McKay Harris, 17, of Neosho, was seriously injured. 

Ashlin and Harris were not wearing seatbelts.  The Ducommuns were wearing seatbelts, according to Patrol reports.
