Convoy of Hope Empowering Women Across the World

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Convoy of Hope held a luncheon in honor of local women Thursday, but uplifts women year-round on a global scale through its Women Empowerment initiative.

International Women’s Day started in 1909, as a way to commemorate the women’s rights movement, education and empowerment. Some of the same topics discussed then are still on women’s minds today.
“You teach one woman and she never keeps it to herself, she shares and shares and shares– that’s one of the strengths of being a woman,” said Convoy of Hope ambassador Linda McAllister.
Convoy of Hope’s Women Empowerment program provides education and job training to women across seven nations. These lessons provide women with life skills to break the cycle of poverty.
“The women who have become empowered and through their businesses oftentimes are hiring other women so it there is a ripple effect– they are able to care for their own kids, their communities are being impacted and even their nations,” said Convoy Women Director Dorree Donaldson.
Convoy’s initiative has helped nearly 17,000 women across the world receive training and start-up capital.
