SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– A construction development on one of Springfield’s busiest roads is stirring up concerns. And while already existing businesses in the area say the development could be good for the city, it might not be so good for Springfield commuters.
In her two and half years behind the desk at Southwestern Hearing Centers on East Sunshine, Jennifer McManis has greeted patient after patient.
“It can be ten to twenty a day,” she says.
She’s also greeted change.
“Trying to get out of here at five is a nightmare,” she says.
You see not too long ago, Jennifer’s office-which is right here– looked out onto this green space and of course the traffic on Sunshine and national.
Now, the green space looks a little more like this.
And the traffic has changed too.
“Now that they have the construction out there. I have seen multiple wrecks,” she says.
Though representatives from Branco Enterprises, the company behind the construction, wouldn’t speak on camera, KOLR10 was told in a phone call with the company that once finished this site will be occupied by three buildings, totaling 24000 square feet, with a parking lot in the back.
And though they couldn’t say what exactly will be there the company anticipates there will be at least two restaurants.
“I think it’s going to be a good thing for the city and the area to have something nice built there,” she says.
For now, though Jennifer says it’s just a cause for more treacherous, troublesome, traffic.
“My fear would be for our patients because we have a lot of elderly patients and traffic is bad enough as it is,” she says.
And she says that’s just while construction is underway. With the site claiming to open in early 2018….
“It’s going to be a mess for a while,” says McManis.
