SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–The Chestnut Bridge project is halfway done.
The overpass opened earlier Tuesday so traffic can use the two-way bridge with two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane.
Workers are continuing to remove pavement while building two more lanes of the overpass.
Crews began working on it in the summer of 2016. Even though they’ve met a few delays, they are still plowing through the project.
“We are a few months behind,” said Brad Gripka of MoDOT. “It’s just utilities and everything else being such a long project. Being two years in the making it’s kind of snowballed a little bit. But, ya know, we’re going to be completed by the end of this year.”
The expected cost of this project is a little under $15-million.
