LEBANON, Mo. — The City of Lebanon has received the 2019 Innovation Award for a Medium Sized City for the city’s fire department’s smoke detector program.
This award was issued by the Missouri Municipal League.
This program helps firefighters install smoke detectors in homes free of charge to residents, with the goal of having a working smoke detector in every home.
The project also included providing carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and ladders.
This program was resurrected after a tragic fire last summer that cost the lives of five children. Another woman was also injured in the fire.
The fire department says the home had zero working smoke alarms.
