Christopher Columbus Statue Vandalized in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — A statue of Christopher Columbus was vandalized in a Saint Louis park.

Authorities say vandals splashed the Tower Grove Park Statue with red paint Thursday, writing words such as “black lives matter” and “murder” on it.

This comes after nationwide pressure for Columbus statues to be removed from public areas.

Critics say the Italian explorer was a conqueror who crushed civilizations and enslaved natives.

But, supporters argue Columbus introduced Europeans to new lands and civilizations.
