FLIPPIN, Ark. — A 2 year old girl from northwest Arkansas died early Friday morning, apparently from injuries she suffered over the weekend.   Dusty Smith, assistant police chief in Flippin, Arkansas, says officers were called to a home in Flippin about 9:00 p.m. Sunday and found the little girl with severe injuries.

She was treated at the scene, then airlifted to an area hospital.

Smith tells KOLR10 News, during the investigation 23-year-old, Cody Allen of Marion County was taken into custody and charged with a Class Y Felony of First Degree Battery.  Allen is the boyfriend of the girl’s mother.

Allen was placed on an investigative hold and following an interview with investigators on Wednesday, attempted to commit suicide in the Marion County Jail. After receiving medical attention he was taken to a mental health facility.

Smith says Allen may be transferred back to the Marion County Jail if additional charges are filed in light of the girls death.
