SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Police have identified a woman killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian Tuesday evening.

Per news release, Springfield Police say Barbara E. Foster, 57, from Springfield was killed after being rear-ended and ran over in the street by another driver. 

Police have opened a homicide investigation, as they believe Foster may have been hit intentionally. 

Elizabeth H. McKeown, 46, from Springfield is being identified as a suspect by Springfield Police. 

Officers were dispatched just before 5:15 P.M. Tuesday for the hit-and-run crash with a pedestrian that had been struck. When they arrived they found Foster seriously injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Witnesses told police another vehicle had hit the victim and left the scene. The suspect vehicle fled to Campbell and Sunshine, where it had collided with another vehicle.  

Police say witnesses from the first incident had followed the suspect and prevented them from escaping. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody. 

Officers initiated a homicide investigation after gathering evidence and information at both scenes.
