Ceremony Hosted at Dickerson Park Zoo in Honor of Henry the Hippo

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A special ceremony was hosted Sunday to celebrate Henry the Hippo, who was put to rest last week after complications from an infection.

The Dickerson Park Zoo honored Henry by sharing personal stories about him and remembering how he got to the zoo.

Henry’s keepers say although he was known for going number two quite a lot he will always hold a special place in their hearts.

“Henry is the most handsome hippo, male hippo, I’ve ever seen,” said April Marler, an animal health technician at the zoo. “I must admit, I like a guy with facial hair and Henry had his share. I loved his whiskered face.”

After mating with his female partner Bibi he fathered baby Fiona who is currently at the Cincinnati Zoo.
